This Nutshell provides an introduction to California government, including state and local governmental entities. It begins with an explanation of the state Constitution and then examines in detail the three branches of government. These chapters provide in-depth explanations of the Legislature, its legislative process, the Governor and the other eight constitutional offices, followed by a review of administrative entities and the rulemaking process before exploring the state's judiciary. Thereafter, the book looks at local governments and the role they play as well as the state's electoral system.

Chris Micheli is an attorney and lobbyist with the Sacramento governmental relations firm of Snodgrass & Micheli, LLC.
