This text is designed to provide law and undergraduate students with a foundational understanding of this complex area of law while offering practitioners an up-to-date review of key legal principles and developments. The book focuses on the principal federal statutes governing workplace discrimination, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (race, color, national origin, sex, and religious discrimination), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.

The book examines the methods used to establish violations, including both disparate treatment and disparate impact theories, and provides a brief primer on the use of statistical evidence in discrimination cases. It also addresses defenses to the use of classifications prohibited by these statutes. Finally, the text offers a concise reference to the often-complex procedural requirements and remedial provisions governing workplace discrimination claims.
